With regard to the D1 Licensing Category to drive mini buses, we will endeavour to offer you guidance to comply with the legal requirements. Confusion has been created regarding this license category of late, as a result of a lack of definitive guidance and the complexity of information available.
D1 license holders who have held the license prior to January 1997 ( Grandfather rights ) (nfhr )
Will have to:
Apply for access NI. (It may be possible to email the DVA Licensing and submit those held on file)
Complete a Medical. (DLM1 FORM)
Apply for provisional D1 license. (DL2 FORM)
Complete modules 1,2,3 & 4, to attain an unrestricted D1 license.
D1 License holders who have passed a driving test for this category before September 2008 ( nfhr ) (Note: on passing a D1 test, the “NFHR” restriction would be removed)
Will have to complete modules 2 & 4, or they can complete 35 hours CPC training, to obtain a Drivers Qualification Card.
D1 License holders who passed their test after September 2008, must complete modules 2 & 4.
Note: The module 2 & 4 or 35 hours option is a one off, if the driver has previously held a DQC in that category they must complete the 35 hours.
